It is spring 1945 on the remote North Sea island of Amrum. Twelve-year-old Nanning spends his days working the farm, hunting seals, and fishing at night to help his family survive. When the war ends, and his mother falls into a deep decline, he sets out across the island to find the simple things she has asked for.
